I now have two raincoats: one blue and torn on the bicep and the other a bit too big. Both came in incredibly handy as I enjoyed the warm rains of Ireland. Here are my key takeaways:
Best History Museum? Kilmainham Gaol which housed numerous revolutionary figures. One figure was Constance Markievicz who was going to be killed for her role in the Easter Rebellion before the British realized she was a lady. Her response to the lighter sentence of life? “I do wish your lot had the decency to shoot me”
Best pub? Stag’s Head in Dublin. Hell of a good time listening to Ukulele night in the attic, Comedy in the basement, and snug on the first floor. It has damn fine beers and inspires excellent times.
Best walk? Staggering from Doolin to the coastal campsite with the cliffs of Moher in the background while signing karaoke songs in the rain.
All in all, its a amazing place to see with fun people and good music. I’m thrilled I was able to get a snapshot of life there and survived driving on the country roads.
