Picking up almost exactly where Book 2 left off in Urithiru, I’m a bit underwhelmed by the Death of Sadias’ impact to the world at the start. Like a Bob Ross’ happy little accident-al murder. Adolin lives with the choice pretty well all things considered. Though the catalyst it allows for the introduction of Unmade makes for an excellent introduction of Odium’s powers. Shallan and her fiancé do the rounds in Urithiru protecting the place from the Unmade, while Kaladin makes a trip home before befriending Singers. Their adventures join together in the conflict at the Alethi Capital and into Shadesmar’s strange world of Spren. This book belongs to Dalinar though. His history and the many men he once was throughout the creation of the Alethi empire: the Warrior, the Drunk, the General, and eventually the Bondsmith in full. Dalinar makes a bid to follow the words of the dead Almighty to Unite not just his nation but all nations that are threatened by Odium’s return to power and the return of the Singers. All the while, the memories that he’d once traded away are slowly returning. The culmination of his story is a confrontation with Odium and this Unmade. A turning point that breaks reality and literally made me cheer! My favorite book in the series so far.
