Book 2 of the Stormlight Archive made me love Shallan. After a rocky start for me in book one, I’ve found her character coming into her one. Her wardship on hold post the assassination of Jasnah, the Radiant to be is forced to use her newfound powers with her Spren, Pattern, to find her calling on the Shattered Planes. This book also finally puts the three main characters in the same place (Finally!). Interactions between Shallan & Kaladin are entertaining and eventually heartfelt. Dalinar Kholin comes into his own and accepts the visions that had him questioning his sanity earlier on. This also really gets into the head of his son Adolin Kholin who is wonderfully competent and ridiculously good. Shallan’s engagement to him creates a nice little love triangle. But the highlight of this book for me is Kaladin’s choice to either support his fellow Bridgeman Moash in an assassination’s attempt against the ill fit King or keep his oaths of protection. Overall a very satisfying continuation of the series.
